We were first contacted in 2021 by new homeowners looking to create a safe and welcoming backyard for their two dogs. The existing fence was aging and no longer provided the containment or privacy they needed. What began as a simple fencing project quickly evolved into a comprehensive backyard transformation—one that would balance functional outdoor living with the natural beauty of the adjacent ravine.
Because the property backs onto protected green space, the design process required careful navigation of both TRCA (Toronto and Region Conservation Authority) guidelines and RNFP (Ravine and Natural Features Protection) regulations. Over the winter of 2021, we developed several layout options that respected these constraints while maximizing usability and flow. An application to the Committee of Adjustment was also submitted to modestly increase the size of the original deck.
After a detailed permitting process managed entirely by our team, with the exception of the COA submission, the building permit was issued in spring 2023, and construction began shortly thereafter. By the fall, all finishing touches were completed, and the backyard was ready to be enjoyed.
